OSHA requires the employer to provide training for each employee who might be exposed to fall hazards. The training must enable each employee to recognize the hazards of falling as well as train each employee in the procedures to be followed to minimize these hazards.
This Fall Protection Competent Person Level Course includes ANSI/ASSP Z359.2-2023 Competent Person specific training requirements. It is important to note that this course is a competent level course and does not necessarily deem the individual taking this course a competent person. The individual’s employer is the only one that can deem them a competent person based on their knowledge and experience. This course includes the following:
Examples of all applicable equipment and systems used.
- Fall protection equipment experiential exercises where attendees can do before use inspection, assembly, use, disassembly, and storage.
- Fall hazard recognition and identification and requirements for surveying fall hazards.
- Periodic inspection of equipment components and systems.
- Developing fall protection procedures.
- Selecting and using certified and non-certified anchorages with a focus on strength and location.
- Awareness of hierarchy of fall protection and fall protection and rescue regulations and standards.
- Attendees fall protection program responsibilities.
- Assessing systems component compatibility.
- Estimating clearance requirements using maximum deceleration distances of fall arrest systems.
- Principles of fall protection system assembly, focusing on the reduction and control of connections, free fall distances, arresting forces, swing fall and ease of rescue.
